Alpha1-oleate-induced tumor cell death: Cellular interactions leading to nuclear entry and rapid cell death

Project: Dissertation

Project Details

Description

Alpha1-Oleate (Alpha1H) is a protein-lipid complex derived from human breast milk called HAMLET (Human Alpha Lactalbumin made lethal to Tumor cells). A peptide screen based on the structural elements of the protein part of the complex (alpha-lactalbumin) has led to the discovery of an N-terminal peptide that reproduces essential tumoricidal features of the holo-protein. Alpha1H enters the cells and induces rapid cell death similar to what has been seen for the parent HAMLET complex. A more detailed mechanistic understanding of the mode of action of this complex in cancer cells is studied.
