Business as usual. Corporate defence strategies against accusations of crime.

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The project’s objective is to study the strategies employed by three businesses (Telia Sonera, Lundin Petroleum and Stora Enso) when defending themselves against allegations of crime.

Is it possible to distinguish differences in the companies’ defence strategies across different periods of time, in different forums and in relation to different target groups? How may institutional and social structures affect the types of defence mechanisms that are utilised and in what ways may these defence mechanisms influence the companies’ opportunities to engage in crime?

By studying how companies frame their defence in various venues and at various times, the ambition is to provide knowledge about how companies reason when it comes to the limits for their responsibility for human rights and the environment. The research project runs between 2016 and 2019 together with Janne Flyghed at the Department of Criminology at Stockholm University, financed by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.
