Comparative studies on unpaid caregiving in Europe

Project: Dissertation

Project Details

Description

The dissertation examines the hidden costs of unpaid elder caregiving among men and women across European nations as well as how the societal organization of care and paid work relates to the costs. It does so against the backdrop of population aging and rising labor market involvement of older workers and women in particular. Empirical patterns are examined through a gender and country-comparative lens, allowing a systematic analysis of how economic and other societal structures shape caregiving and caregiver outcomes. The studies draw on large-scale, cross-disciplinary survey data from the Survey of Health, Retirement and Aging in Europe (SHARE) as well as macro-level data from other international sources.
