Description
The project focuses on comparative water availability assessment in the Middle East using Remote Sensing methods and AI/ML algorithms. It is part of the research program "Middle East in the Contemporary World", which is defined at the CMES.
Layman's description
Water-related problems are a huge concern of the current century. It has been estimated that one-fifth of the world's population is facing water scarcity while population growth and climate change could further complicate this looming challenge. The increasing demands upon groundwater resources due to expanding metropolitan and agricultural areas are a serious challenge, particularly in semiarid and arid regions like Middle East (ME). In this project we aim to assess the availability of water resources in ME region by analyzing satellite images and ground and/or surface water data.
