Cultural Policies at public libraries in Scania

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This study concerns how staff at public libraries work with some of the areas that are prioritized in the regional cultural plan to understand if there are any conflicts between the local, regional, or national cultural policies and if so, how they are solved strategically and in the daily activities at the library. Questions we ask are:

How is local availability understood in our contemporary digital world, with a particular focus on languages and the libraries possibilities and capabilities to reach out to a heterogenous community and its varying needs of information and culture?

How do they handle being a local meeting place and a part in a cultural infrastructure in our society that reaches beyond national borders?

Do work within these areas have any consequences for the priorities and activities at the libraries?

This qualitiative study is conducted in five municipalities in Scania and has received funding from Region Skåne.
