Decoding bacterial toxin-antitoxin systems: from high-throughput discovery to molecular mechanism and biotechnology

Gemma Atkinson’s team has developed software capable of identifying new toxins and antitoxins in bacteria. In this protect we are attempting to find all the toxin-antitoxin pairs in microbial genomes, ascertain what toxins do in a cell – and how antitoxins can inhibit their effects.
