Development of an integrated research and innovation uptake framework for a developing country – A case study for Rwanda

My research focuses on the development of research and innovation (R&I) uptake frameworks in developing countries context, with Rwanda as a case study. The main purpose of my study is to understand how knowledge generated from research activities can contribute to societal development in developing countries. The main problem for effective research and innovation uptake for development is the lack of linkage (Collaboration) between knowledge producers (Universities and research institutions) and knowledge users. My study will focus on enabling frameworks and tools to bridge that realized gap and enhance interactions among stakeholders in order to allow the flow and use of knowledge to solve the societal problems. To do that, I will explore drivers and constraints for Research and Innovation uptake with a focus on institutional and policy frameworks, assess how the Rwanda National Innovation System of is being constructed compared to its neighboring countries in East African region and assess the role of Intellectual Property Rights in facilitating research and innovation uptake in the development process. I will finally use agricultural sector to formulate a contextualized framework for R&I uptake in Rwanda.
