Description

The European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS), currently under construction, is planned to be the worlds most intense source of neutrons, and will enable material research on smaller scales and in more details than ever before. However, this goal brings with it several challengers. For instance, current-day detectors and readout technologies are not adequate for ESS to utilize this planned high flux of neutron. ESS is therefore investing heavily into the development of the next generation of neutron detectors. My tasks will involve the development, construction and characterization of these new detector prototypes as well as the development of source-based neutron tagging techniques as a complementary, first-test and commissioning utility for detectors.
