Endocrine disrupters in aquatic environments and impact on organisms

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Aquatic organisms are exposed to man-made molecules which can interfere with endogenous biological processes. This results in negative effects inside various species and can lead to both long and short term disruptions of for example reproduction and behaviors.

Popular science description

Animals living in water are today increasingly exposed to chemicals which have been released from human sources. These chemicals include pharmaceutical drugs and they can directly interfere with animals biological systems due to high similarity between how species handle and break down substances inside the body.
