Description

The project develops knowledge concerning energy and resource efficient masonry external walls. The objective is to develop a new generation of energy efficient masonry walls without further increasing the total thickness of the
walls. This objective is achieved by reducing the thickness of the load bearing layer by use of externally bonded reinforcement, which makes it possible to increase the thickness of the insulation layer. The energy saving potential on building level is estimated to 20 – 30 %. On a national scale, the energy saving potential in newly built dwellings and commercial buildings is estimated to 25 – 30 GWh/year, with an increasing positive trend due to a more energy efficient building stock.

The project will further develop knowledge obtained in a previous project within the E2B2 research program. The application has solid support from industry actors who need to adapt the energy performance of masonry buildings
to more stringent requirements.
