This project aims to establish strong collaboration between three sites for research and teaching in the field of media history, the unit for Media History at Lund University, the main foreign partner the Centre for Media History at Bournemouth University, and the Research Centre for the History of Broadcasting in Northern Germany at the Hans Bredow Institute for Media Research at the University of Hamburg. With different areas of expertise, ranging from the press to audio, audio-visual and the Web, all three centres have much to gain from cooperation.

The project title, Entangled Media Histories (EMHIS), emphasizes the transnational dimensions of media history. The activities will extend over four years commencing in the autumn of 2013. They include the arrangement of workshops, conferences and symposia at all three sites, as well as short-time exchanges of researchers and PhD students.

In the course of the four years, a theoretical and methodological platform for the study of entangled media histories will be established. Concrete plans will be developed to assure future European funding and extended collaboration in research and education. At the end of the EMHIS project, the results of the intellectual dialogue will be summed up in a joint international publication.
