eSSENCE@LU 6:3 - Real-time traffic management in smart cities - Animating the future from historic and current observations

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Our main objective is to create advanced mathematical tools for accurate traffic prediction in order to enable traffic management and demand forecasting in traffic networks.

We process, in real-time, a huge amount of traffic data from cameras and vehicles in an actual city network in order to predict upcoming network demand based on historical and real-time data and provide alternative solutions to alleviate or eliminate problematic network hot-spots. The project therefore involves real-time image processing, advanced data communication, mathematical forecasting and optimization with tools from computer science, mathematics, machine learning and statistics.
