Evolving Geographies of Economic Inequality: Continuity and Change in Wage Structures Across Sweden, 1990–2018

Project: Dissertation

Project Details

Description

The PhD project aims to add to our understanding of regional uneven development in Sweden and how it has shaped patterns of intra-regional inequality. Specifically, it seeks to understand the process of deindustrialisation and how it shaped the prevalence of lower- and higher-paid employment across Swedish regions.

Doing so, it also engages with and problematizes how geographies and history are approached in quantitative studies within economic geography. Primarily, by proposing alternative ways to trace, contextualise and localise regional uneven development.

Popular science description

How is inter- and intra-regional wage inequality shaped by structural changes in the regional economy?

How can we better approach history and different geographies to trace how regional economies change in the face of major shocks?
