Project Details
Description
Existing biokinetic models are used to estimate activity concentrations of excreted ESS-radionuclides per unit intake in exposed subjects, and to which extent urinary or faecal bioassays can complement or substitute internal dose assessment by means of in-vivo whole-body counting. For emergency preparedness alternative methods to assess internal dose from the alpha emitter 148Gd is of special interest due to its potentially high radiological impact. Goal: Establish theoretical time window of quantitative assessment of internal dose from alpha and gamma emitters from the ESS target by means of urinary or faecal bioassay, using newly developed biokinetic models from ICRP.
