Popular science description

The project focuses on how research publications are published and how that affects how findable they become for the users. Deficiencies in publishing solutions and lack of understanding of how the information ecology works decreases the findability of the documents.

The project focuses on how research is published affects how findable they become for users. Scholarly publishing has become more diverse, there are more ways to publish and more channels than ever before. Documents can be published freely as Open Access, or through traditional publishers.

Shortcomings of the publishing solutions and lack of understanding of how information ecology works often reduce the findability of documents, and therefore possibly also the usage. The differences in findability is becoming clearer with more actors that publish, especially as Open Access, and when some publishers actively work for increased findability.

The project is based on my dissertation, but focuses on scholarly publishing instead of digitized cultural heritage (see my list of publications).
