The main objective of the project is to understand how different bio-fuels and mixtures of these behaves in engines and how these are linked to the various indexes; octane, cetane, phi and HCCI numbers. An intermediate goal is to find new indexes that can complement existing (octane number etc) and thus provide a better understanding of alternative fuel behavior in both traditional and new engine concepts. Deliverable of this project are:
1-Definition of new indexes
2-Fuel matrix of tested fuels categorized according to existing and new indexes such as RON, MON, CN, phi-sensitivity, HCCI numbers.
3-Model of fuel properties.
4-A basis for kinetics simulations.
Fundamental understanding of how different alternative fuels behave in combustion engines and how these are linked to the various indexes like Octane Number.
