Growing more unequal? Long term trends in inequality in Africa

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Why is income inequality higher in some countries than in others? And what drives it over the long run? These are central questions in economic history and economics since over half a century, but clear answers are still lacking. Currently, most studies are concerned with the developed world and there is a growing literature on Asia and Latin America. The only region missing in comprehensive longitudinal studies, is Africa. This project is a unique and novel effort to bring Africa into the inequality debate.
