Induction of labour - pharmacokinetics, risk factors for cesarean section and implementation of an outpatient regime

Project: Dissertation

Project Details

Description

Induction of labor (IOL) is one of the most common obstetrical interventions today. The rate of IOL in Sweden has risen from 13% in 2014 to 25% in 2020. The most widely used cervical ripening methods are mechanical (balloon catheter and amniotomy) and pharmacological. The most used type of drugs in the case of an unfavorable cervix are prostaglandins which act both on the cervix and by potentiating uterine contractions. Misoprostol is one of the most commonly used drugs. One of the risks of IOL is cesarean section. We aim to conduct studies to come closer to methods and protocols which aim to lower the risk of cesarean section. This will be made possible with both retrospective and prospective studies.
