Legal Persons and Legal Personhood

My doctoral research project concerns the concepts of legal person and legal personhood. The doctoral research project aims to analyze how these concepts can be, and have been, defined and understood and, if deemed necessary, to present a tenable definition of these concepts. The analysis takes into account recent theoretical developments in Jurisprudence concerning rights and legal persons as well as global developments in law where previous non-legal persons such as rivers and non-human animals have acquired legal rights and/or status as legal persons.

The project will furthermore concern questions regarding the analyzed concepts function in law, e.g. if they in addition to a descriptive function also have a normative function, and the actual and normative implications following for entities who have acquired status as legal persons.
