Liberal intellectuals, human rights politics and the public sphere in contemporary Turkey

The project investigates the role of liberal intellectuals in the transformation processes of the public sphere in Turkey between 1991 and 2011. I analyze how these intellectuals as part of a discursive community have contributed to the legitimization of Islamic actors, to the change in meaning of the Kurdish issue and to the breaking of the taboo of the Armenian genocide through public actions.
