Localization of radioactive sources out of control using moving gamma spectrometry and recursive frequentist and Bayesian inference

The objective of the proposed PhD project is to investigate how existing Bayesian methods to locate sources can be improved by combining traditional frequentist statistics with Bayesian methods and how ambient conditions such as fluctuating natural background radiation and variable shielding can be accounted for to yield reliable predictions. Furthermore, the aim is also to investigate if the blended algorithms can be coded so that real-time computational projections of the radiation field can be attained, enabling more efficient radiation search strategies in-situ.
