The objective of this project was to study the different procedures applied in the European Union with regard to citizen’s participation in the regulation of deliberate release of living modified organisms. The method of conversation analysis was used to analyse the communication process in these participatory procedures.
The project has an interdisciplinary character bringing in a new perspective to the investigation of permitting procedures in the administrative regulation of plant biotechnology. In particular, we have been studying the dynamics of social positionings in various debates.
Seven countries participated in the research: Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, and United Kingdom. The Swedish interdisciplinary team consisted of Jana Holsanova, Henrik Rahm, Mattias Baier and Håkan Hydén.
