The project aims to advance the knowledge for parcel locker network development from a policy perspective. The project focuses on Sweden’s rapidly growing parcel locker networks, which are utilized as e-commerce logistics hubs by various market actors. Parcel lockers have the potential to improve both the operational and environmental performance of e-commerce logistics, but that is possible only if the network is designed efficiently. A policy tools need to be in place in order to achieve the sustainability goals. The project is developed as a pre-study and will investigate the existing parcel-locker-related policies in Sweden, evaluate their efficiency in steering the market towards the sustainability course, and develop recommendations for further action. The study’s findings are intended to aid the transition to sustainable e-commerce practices, where policy is utilized to achieve the goal in the most resource-efficient way possible.
