Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Evgeny Pashukanis (1891–1937) was perhaps the most significant Marxist theorist of law. His work not only inspired early Soviet jurisprudence but also continues to stimulate new waves of Marxist legal thinking.

2024 mark the hundredth anniversary of his landmark text, ‘General Theory of Law and Marxism’. To celebrate, a group of Marxist legal scholars across the globe will be organising a number of events and activities exploring the significance and enduring relevance of his work not only for law, but also politics and political strategy.
Details of the full program will be circulated independently and will be regularly updated on the blog Legal Form: A Forum for Marxist Analysis and Critique. If you wish to be added to our mailing list, have any questions, or want to organise an event or other activity (e.g. translations), you can reach the coordinating committee (Tanzil Chowdhury, Robert Knox, Eva Nanopoulos and Fernando Quintana) at [email protected].

Between 26th and 27th September, 2024, scholars based in Japan, Brazil, Puerto Rico, the U.S., Canada, Austria, England, Germany and Sweden will come to Lund to discuss the content, legacy and actuality of the oeuvre of Pashukanis.
