Personalised virtual learning spaces to support undergraduates in producing research reports: two case studies

Project: Research

Project Details

Layman's description

The purpose of this project was to evaluate the use of a web-based portfolio system, which provided students with their own virtual learning space. In this space, they received instructions on how to conduct and write up their first research-based study, and they were provided with individual, asynchronic communication with their tutor.

This study investigated the use of a web-based private learning space for students while conducting and writing up their first research-based project while in their second semester at university. The study shows that students greatly appreciated enhanced access to tutor guidance both through web-based forms, which provided stepwise guidance, and through a communication tool, which allowed each student individual support from the tutor.
