Description

According to Karen Litfin (2003: 470):
"The emergence of planetary politics is a direct result of the fact that, but the late twentieth century, humanity had become a geophysical force, affecting not only local and regional ecosystems, but all of the Earth's systems: the atmosphere, the biosphere, the hydrosphere, etc....
Planetary politics entails a distinctive set of dynamics: comlex interlinkages between the local and the global; the neccesity and inherent difficulty of North-South cooperation; intergenerational time horizons which are typically articulated on the basis of scientific models; a strong tendency towards a holistic understanding of the Earth's systems; and an incremental institutionalization of a precautionary approach."
