Pre-study to investigate opportunities and challenges of digitalization and automation in bridge design – highlighting the human contribution to success/failure

The project is a pre-study to evaluate possible strategies for how the bridge engineers’ role in the modern design process can be strengthened to reduce errors and improve performance. Modern design in this context simply refers to the situation as it is now, while probable future changes may also be considered. The project is to be carried out by senior researchers at the Division of Structural Engineering at Lund University. The expected results of the project will be used as a basis for a larger, more in-depth, research proposal on the same topic.
