Prosody and Prediction in Neural Speech Processing

Project: Dissertation

Project Details

Description

The thesis project investigated how the brain uses speech melody to rapidly predict upcoming lexical and syntactic structures. In the first three studies, it was shown that listeners take advantage of Swedish word-level tones to pre-activate upcoming word endings, while the final study demonstrated that listeners also use sentence-level speech melody to anticipate upcoming word order structures.
