Recreational walking practices: orchestrations, experiences and perceptions of "going for a walk"

The central topic of my PhD project is the act of "going on a walk", or walking as a voluntary or leisure activity. With a focus on contemporary Skåne, the project explores how individuals and communities orchestrate, experience and perceive leisure walking practices. Who walks, how does this walking happen, and what is the relationship between practices of walking and representations of walking? And what does an activity that is ostensibly voluntary, or "leisure", reveal about the needs and desires of the culture that hosts it? These questions are the starting point of the study.
