In this comparative study of two Central European history cultures, historical feature films were analysed to study the role of the socialist past in unified Germany and the Czech Republic after 1989. The study questioned in what ways the socialist past had become 'reel history', i.e. moulded into historical narratives articulated in commercial feature films.
