Reliabilism: Its Problems and Virtues

Project: Dissertation

Project Details

Description

This project centers around reliabilism as a theory of justification and knowledge. It aims to explore ways in which to respond to some of the classical issues facing reliabilism (e.g., clairvoyance cases, the New Evil Demon Problem, the generality problem, Brandom's reference class problem, lottery cases, etc.). Part of the project consists in spelling out the motivations for reliabilism in order to understand what, within the theory, is worthy of preservation were any modifications of it necessary. Ultimately, then, my aim evaluative and reconstructive. The key questions are: Can reliabilism remain plausible in the face of its many issues? If not, what has to be modified in order for it to remain plausible?
