Popular science description
“Knowledge generated by research is the basis of sustainable development, which requires that knowledge be placed at the service of development, be converted into applications, and be shared to ensure widespread benefits,” (Mary-Louise Kearney- Director, UNESCO). This is the outcome that University of Rwanda (UR) intends to achieve through its research agenda. As a young university, UR has set for itself an ambitious target of being a research led university by 2025. To achieve this target, strong support is needed to strengthen the research governance systems, and improve grant and project management. In addition, there is a need to establish research communication and uptake capacities as well as data management, while enhancing academic writing skills and improving English language proficiency of UR’s researchers and postgraduate students.
