Project Details
Description
This project has its beginnings in that the research collaborators has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Edinburgh University Press concerning a co-written monograph with a preliminary deadline of April 1, 2019. The project analyses the history of film studios in the Scandinavian countries as well as the current studio strategies for how to navigate as small nation production cultures in a global and digital market. Contrary to the markets of most major international studios, the small size of the Scandinavian domestic markets challenges the very notion of being a studio. Accordingly, a theoretical contribution of this project is to discuss how to think of studios in small nation production contexts, while analysing the strategies chosen by main Nordic players, from the world’s oldest continuously active film studio Nordisk Film (founded in 1906) to the diverse media ecology of the contemporary digital media landscape.
