Ancient and mediaeval literature has been translated in the Scandinavian countries as in the rest of Europe. What authors? What texts? Who translated? When? Take Homer, for instance. When was he first translated into Swedish? Danish? Norwegian? By whom? Which epic was first? How often have the Homeric epics been retranslated? This bibliography answers these and many other questions.
The project Scandinavian translations of ancient and mediaeval literature - a bibliografical webb resource is a joint Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish initiative. The project aims (1) to create a digital bibliography of all translations published after the year 1500 of literature from antiquity and the middle ages, (2) to give public access to this bibliography on the webb, and (3), in a later phase of the project, to make a selection of important ancient literature available on the Webb.
