Popular science description

Piracy is generally thought to have disappeared from the world's oceans towards the end of the 19th century. However, in several places in Asia, including Eastern Indonesia, the Southern Philippines, the Gulf of Tonkin (Vietnam), the South China Sea and the Malacca Strait, piratical activity continued to pose a significant problem, at different times, during the period c. 1870-1970.
