Description
Many agricultural residues contain high-quality protein that is not currently used to its full potential. One such residual stream is hempseed press cake which is obtained from the production of hempseed oil. The aim of the project is to utilize and upcycle the hempseed press cake by extracting, purifying, and characterizing the proteins in a cost-effective way using different extraction methods while also examining the conditions for the fibers. The goal is to use the proteins in new innovative, sustainable, and locally produced food products with a focus on meat and dairy analogues.
