Project Details
Description
SWE-CLARIN will implement the Swedish participation in the construction phase of the ESFRI initiative CLARIN (Common Language Resources and Technoloy Infrastructure), by setting up an eScience infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), as well as other disciplines relying on the content of digital text and speech resources as primary research data, thereby responding to the linguistic content processing challenges raised by the enormous increase in digitally available language data, both newly produced and resulting from cultural heritage digitization projects. The SWE-CLARIN research infrastructure will be organized as a network of CLARIN centers. Type-A centers will take on the tasks of maintaining a national metadata registry, harvesting national providers, and providing a repository for very long-term archiving and curation with continuous technology migration. They will further provide technical support and training on the use of the CLARIN infrastructure and participate in the development of the technical infrastructure and CLARIN standards. Type-B centers will provide on-line high-performance computing access to language resources, as well as to online language tools utilizing linguistically annotated language resources, and they will offer custom services for the analysis of language data in collaboration with HSS researchers. Type-K centers will provide the scientific expertise needed for effective use of the infrastructure to HSS researchers.
