Project Details
Description
The project Teaching and learning in popular genre fiction explores the theme of education, broadly conceived, in popular genre fiction from 1900 onwards. This interdisciplinary project utilises a theoretical framework based on, in particular, narrative ethics and genre blending. Such a framework enables an investigation into how different aspects of education are dealt with in fiction, and engaged with by readers, chiefly regarding the teacher/pupil dichotomy and reflections on learning in relation to character development. Our project will primarily be concerned with English-language fiction but will also take transnational distribution and translation into account.
