The Emerging Bio-economy: Investigating the Role of Communication and Stakeholder Involvement

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Public perceptions and the social acceptance of the bio-economy appear to be factors of growing importance. However, very little research has been conducted in this area. This project will investigate in-depth the role of communication and stakeholder involvement in the emerging bio-economy, taking bio-energy and the bio-refinery concept as the main focus. The research work will look at Sweden in the EU context. The project will be divided into four parallel tasks. First, extensive literature reviews will be carried out on existing knowledge (which is fragmented across a range of fields). The second task will be the collection of empirical data through case studies, interviews and surveys. The empirical data will be collected on local projects and national (and European) conditions in Sweden, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland. The third task will involve utilising analytical frameworks based on innovation systems and strategy models. The fourth task will be the project outputs, namely an interactive blog (bio-literacy.blogspot.com), reports on case studies, conference papers, articles for international scientific journals, and a popular science guide on the bio-economy for the general public. The outputs will document the research process, findings and recommendations.
