The History of Knowledge Cultures (funded by the Crafoord Foundation)

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The purpose of this programme will be to develop the history of knowledge as a scholarly field. By situating knowledge at the centre of the historical endeavour, we will launch a comprehensive programme to analyse knowledge cultures, combining theoretical considerations and empirical investigations.

Within the programme, a postdoctoral researcher, David Larsson Heidenblad, investigates the emergence of a modern environmental knowledge culture. By closely examining where, when, and how such knowledge circulated in Swedish society at large a new history of the ecological turn is being mapped out. The analysis is centered on how the cultural breakthrough of modern environmentalism in the late 1960s and early 1970s transformed environmental knowledge in new and unpredictable ways.
