Popular science description
An empirical investigation of street art as an art world, a culture and a distribution system.

In this project I investigate the characteristics of street art and attempt to determine what sets this type of expression apart from for instance public art. I also trace the development of street art in recent years, which has been marked by an increasing commercial interest.
What happens when expressions that primarily existed unsanctioned in public space become integrated in the commercial art world? What happens to the practitioners' understanding of themselves? What happens when technology means that the street context is no longer essential for street art?
These are some of the questions that I am concerned with in my exploration of street art as an art world.
