Towards Better Public Governance and Operational Performance in Freight Transportation Security

How do rules and regulations for freight transportation security impact operational performance? Different types of policies aim to increase security, however, goods and information flows for both logistics actors and authorities are also impacted. Thus, relations between public governance and the operational system are studied from an institutional perspective, with a focus on performance regarding security, efficiency, and effectiveness on both micro and macro level.

The thesis project aims to connect public/macro and private/micro interests regarding freight transportation security to contribute to increased knowledge and improved policy design and thereby reducing silo-thinking and sub-optimization.

Camilla’s research interest lies within the cross-disciplinary and applied field of freight transport, policy, and digitalization, where digitalization is a commonly used measure to make information sharing more efficient by using e.g. Intelligent Transport Systems, ITS.
