Understanding the Cultural Impacts and Issues of Lapland Mining: A Long-Term

The aim of this interdisciplinary project is to study 17th-19th c mining in Lapland in the context of colonial expansion, mercantile policies and modernization efforts of the early modern Swedish state, and to examine current controversies surrounding mining in the North and scrutinize their entanglement with the historical and socio-cultural issues. The project is conducted at University of Oulu.
