Visual representations of nature ranges from scientific visualizations and popular science to infotainment, fiction and art. Often it is impossible to draw clear lines between them. Magazines and TV channels like National Geographic and Animal Planet is both about disseminating facts about and aesthetic portrayals of nature. New high-resolution video formats can show nature in stunning detail, often in ways that ascribe human emotions and values to nature. The research field Visual Ecocriticism kan deepen the understanding of how ideas about nature and ecology are shaped through visual representations.
