Abstract

This paper presents a wideband LC quadrature voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) for novel TRPC-UWB transceiver in 0.13 μm CMOS technology. Based on series coupling structure, and through combining the advanced switched capacitor and MOS varactor techniques, this QVCO's continuous frequency tuning range covers from 5.05 to 5.84 GHz. The measured phase noise at 1 MHz offset from a 5.1 GHz carrier achieves -116.46 dBc/Hz, corresponding to a state of art figure of merit (FoM) at 180.2 dB/Hz. The maximum measured phase error for QVCO over the entire tuning range is below 1.8°.
