Abstract

The Central Asian region, with its young and industrious population, abundant natural resources, and rich history, has all the potential for success. In this context, countries in the region are implementing policies to attract foreign investment for the development of their economies. This report serves as a guide to the socio-economic and political-legal aspects of two major countries in the region – Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It does not intend to assess the performance of any specific country in attracting foreign investments or provide extensive recommendations for improving investment attractiveness. Instead, it focuses on analyzing the current investment climate and offers a concise overview of the existing legislative frameworks for foreign direct investment. The research report has been supported by funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (MSCA RISE) Program under grant agreement no. 870647 (project: Central Asian Law) and the Horizon Europe MSCA-SE Programme under grant agreement no. 101085855 (project: MOCCA).
