Crossing borders: Nordic research in music education in an international perspective.

The 15th conference of the Nordic network for research in music education (NNMPF) took place at Inter Arts Center April 21–23, 2010. 100 delegates were scheduled to attend, but due to the ash clouds from Eyafjallajökull, several of the Finnish participants were unable to come. Keynote Speaker the first day was Göran Folkestad, Crossing Borders: Beyond the dichotomies of music education. In day 2 several Post Doc & Senior Research projects were presented, e.g. Bo Nilsson: Digital music tools empowering physically challenged young people and Cecilia K Hultberg: A cultural-psychological model of musical learning and competence development. In the afternoon, several PhD-in-progress and completed PhD projects were presented, with titles like: Mastering the rules of art. Scholastic recruitment, symbolic investment and musical trajectories in (and out of) the Swedish folk high schools (Erik Nylander) and Shaping musical performances. A social semiotic study of choir conductors' multimodal communication in choir (Ragnhild Sandberg Jurström).
