Abstract

"On the Dragon or Lindworm" was first published by Swedish ethnologist Gunnar Olof Hyltén-Cavallius in 1884, and in a second edition in 1885. This third edition includes the whole original text, with 48 accounts by people who claim having seen and in some cases even killed huge snakes called dragons or lindworms. Thomas Malm (herpetologist and human ecologist) has added an introduction, notes, illustrations and a postscript where Hyltén-Cavallius' work and the eyewitness accounts are analysed.
