Abstract

Freud´s 1921/1922 essay "Group psychology and the analysis of the Ego" is reviewed in light of Freud´s influence by LeBon, McDougall and Trotter. The cultural climat in post-war Europe and it´s pessimism is also demonstrated as a contributing factor to Freud´s view on groups and massses. Th influence of the essay on subsequent group resaerch is demonstrated and discussed.
