Inverse scattering for viscoelastic media using transmission data

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

A time domain method for scattering from a one-dimensional homogeneous viscoelastic slab with impedance mismatched interfaces is presented. A viscoelastic medium is characterised by a time-dependent memory function. The reconstruction of this memory function from scattering data is an important and interesting inverse problem. Special attention is paid to the transmitted field. It is shown that transmission data from a homogeneous slab are sufficient to solve the inverse problem.
